Spiritual Dance

As a dancer, dance instructor, and a choreographer, it is a great honor and privilege to be trusted by God; to inform, enlighten and teach on the importance of dancing, for the purpose of ministry and for the edifying of the kingdom.

Dance has been around from the beginning of times. Psalms 149:3 says, “Let them praise His name with the dance; Let them sing praises to Him with the timbrel and harp”. Also in 2 Samuel 6:14, it reads: “And David danced before the Lord with all his might”. So dancing is a good and God thing when approached in the correct manner for the right purpose.

Dance is a powerful tool and weapon of war as well as a way to respond with rejoicing as unto the Lord. It is praise and admiration expressed in movement of the body from what is embedded in the heart, due to an intimate relationship and love to please God. There will be more spiritual movement and impulsive outbursts that will not only bless the one that is dancing, but it will bless and heal those that are in the midst. Always remember that dance is a weapon of war against the enemy’s camp to pull down strong holds.

However, we must be careful not to use dance as a replacement of studying God's word, but it is another way to draw us closer to His heart. There is a requirement of God’s people to make sure that they are seeking Him first; the giver, instead of the gift to dance. God is calling an army of dancers across the nation. Future dancers will know that they have been called to the front line, to tear down strong holds; and as they are yielded before Him as humble submissive servants, there will be a call to abandonment unto God.

As a church, we are an example to the world and we must take notice that dance is also a weapon that is used by Satan daily for seduction, luring, enticement and gives as an invitation to sin. The church must understand that this is the reason why it is imperative to have a Christian dance instructor that has some prior experience on the subject before implementing a dance program. We are welcoming dance into our congregations weekly, so there should be a clear understanding that there is an unmistakable separation between holy dance and unholy dance.

Since dance is being offered in our churches to both our youth as well as adults, it is of equal importance to give both age’s clear instruction and teachings. Although the babies are more innocent and just want to have fun, the teaching is yet of great use in the long run. There have been so many things that have been permitted in our churches that started out to be innocent and just fun. However, to our surprise and to no avail, due to the lack of knowledge and simple ignorance, many churches have experienced much damage.

I don’t want to rain on anyone’s parade because dance is such a beautiful way of gesturing and expressing with our bodies as well as being a way of connecting with others. But, if we are serious about being effective inside of our churches and in ministry, it is important to do things with decency and with order so we can be successful in our efforts concerning the things of God.

Since there are dance groups in the churches all across the world that has been released like fire, church let us not compromise, but let us ask the Holy Spirit to allow the fire to be a Holy fire; because if the fire is not holy, it will open up the door to flesh being on parade. We all know that where there is flesh there is mess, so my encouragement to you is to cover your ministries with much knowledge and much teaching.

I think it would be unfair for me to tell God‘s people how to dance; this is not what I am doing. I only encourage us to desire that God will be pleased with the integrity in our dance programs. I hope this has been informative to dancers, dance instructors, and to leaders all around the world.

My prayer for you today as you desire more of God is from Romans 12:1-3 (TLB) “And so, dear brothers, I plead with you to give your bodies to God. Let them be a living sacrifice, holy--the kind he can accept. When you think of what he has done for you, is this too much to ask? Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but be a new and different person with a fresh newness in all you do and think. Then you will learn from your own experience how his ways will really satisfy you.

As God's messenger, I give each of you, God's warning: Be honest in your estimate of yourselves, measuring your value by how much faith God has given you.”

Blessings and I love you with the agape love of the Lord!
